Hey y'all! Well.. where to begin..? My name is Heather and I absolutely LOVE to paint! I pretty much enjoy anything vintage, crafty or that involves DIY. I have painted and drawn for about as long as I can remember. In the 2nd grade I won the Kansas Soy Bean drawing contest for my age group. Won a trip to Worlds of Fun and my drawing was published in this super sweet calendar. I thought I was pretty cool.. just kidding.. but, really. ;) Anyways, I was always doing crafts as a kid. I'm sure my Mom loved/hated it.. It kept me quiet and out of trouble...but, SO. MUCH. GLITTER... I also painted, and re-painted my bedroom and bedroom furniture a few times.. Including the bathroom I shared with my sisters. I also remember accidentally painting my bedroom floor... multiple times.. Sorry Mom!
Nowadays I'm a stay at home mom, wife and business owner. I'm still just as awesome.. but I have more responsibility. ;) I have one daughter. She's 4 and her name is Annaleigh. She is a hoot! She has THE biggest imagination! She's got some pretty sweet skills too.. at any given time, no matter where we are (like in the check-out line at Wal-Mart) she can transform into any animal she chooses! It's great. She's also been known to tell people I'm not her mom.. I'm her babysitter.. And that she has LOTS of babies and their daddy is her daddy.. Awkward.. My husband, Jerrod, is really great, too! He has to be in order to put up with all my crazy ideas! He's super supportive and has given up half of his garage/man space to help me chase my dreams! He's also my handyman. He really doesn't enjoy this part of his job description but he does it anyway cause he loves me :)
Before I started this business I worked as a massage therapist and then wanted to stay home with our daughter so I opened a daycare. In order to keep my sanity I would paint. I didn't really enjoy doing daycare but I watched some pretty great kids and the best part was that it allowed me to be a stay at home mom. So, like I said, I began painting.. I would find old pieces of furniture and redo them and would list them for sale. Things sold pretty quickly! I started taking my hobby a little more seriously and putting more time into it and one thing led to another. I loved it (and still do)! I decided to take my passion and make it into a business. I was still just doing it part time - when I would get off work and on the weekends. I also started taking my furniture to shows to sell them. This required some very early mornings and very late nights in order to manage everything. After a few months of working full time and running my furniture business part time I became more and more anxious. I just couldn't wait to get off work so I could paint! I struggled with quitting my full time, stable job for my dream job.. I was super nervous that if I quit I wouldn't be able to provide for my family. I prayed and prayed and talked with family and prayed and talked some more. And finally, I knew I just had to go for it! So, 3 months after I started my business I decided to take a leap of faith and I quit my full time job as a daycare provider. And boy am I glad I did!!! I work from home and do everything from out of my side of our garage. It's been about a year now since I started my business. I originally named my business The Hayloft. (You can find out why I changed the name in my blog) This dream of mine has grown and changed so much from when I started a year ago!.. and my dream is only getting bigger! :)
Don't be afraid to go for what you want! This life was meant to be lived! So, spend your time doing things you love with the people you love!
So, there you have it.. I'm just a small town Kansas girl who's a mom, wife, business owner, painter, free spirit, adventurer, dreamer, hard workin', all American girl who belongs among the Wildflowers & Pistols. :)
